I help people to understand the planning process – explaining the content of application & how best to feedback comments to the planning authority. Mostly in Frome but sometimes elsewhere.
Maps are a passion of mine, since year dot, and I also love designing places, since finishing my architectural studies in 1983. Community activism and consultation is also a natural home for me, since working on ‘decanting’ tenants when refurbishing walk-up flats on the edge of Bristol and subsequently acting as Frome Regeneration Officer for many years.
The Planning Process is complex and frustrating. I help by ‘demystifying’ drawings, explaining valid planning objections and where necessary suggesting alternative designs. I help to analyse reasoning, work out policy-fit & try & get into the mind set of all involved in the process.
Having spent 12 years working for local authorities (Bristol CC & Mendip DC) and over 15 years working for architects my approach is based on sound knowledge of the construction industry and the planning framework.
This work is generally done as a volunteer but I am also available as a project manager or architectural designer.
